NGONG-Training the Bambui Farmers of Tomorrow

2015 – 2018 Commissioned by RAD - Reignite Action for Development UK| Bambui, Northwest Region, Cameroon

Visit, https://www.ngonghumanitarian.com to see the Website for this Project. A three-year project designed to deliver an intensive agricultural and enterprise skills training program to a poor rural community suffering the pressure of a fast transition to semi urban Village.

The main aim of NGONG is to professionalize and revitalize the village’s agricultural sector as its whole, by developing farmers’ skills, level of productivity, and ability to reach larger markets.<br>The NGONG project will reach 4,080 direct beneficiaries (680 participants and 3,400 individuals belonging to their immediate family - in Bambui, on average, each family is composed of 6 people). All of the 680 participants will be arable, pastoral, or mixed farmers, of whom 76% will be women given the key role they play at household and community levels. We also aim to ensure that 10% of those trained should be within the UN definition of youth, as those aged between 15 years to 24 years. Training will be offered to Bambui’s farming community in general, organised in 5 groups: Self-subsistence farmers (w=370, m=66, total =436), Small agri-business farmers (w=80, m=54, total=134), Food processors (w=25, m=20, total = 45), Market association representatives (w=40, m=20, total=60), Traders (w=3, m=2, total=5)

NGONG will also reach just under 12,000 indirect beneficiaries, will experience improvement to their livelihoods as a direct result of this project (i.e. increase in food production and security, increase in household income, better child nutrition, better health, and improved ability to learn). The project will span over two years with activities related to training, support, development, and monitoring. The project will cost £199,811 including a grant request from BLF of £154,359. Reignite is the organization responsible for managing, delivering, and monitoring the project, in close partnership with 4 local organizations (SEEDS, NOWEFOR, COBEX, and the National Polytechnic Bamenda) and a seed supplier (IRAD).
